almost moved

I am mostly moved into our brand new (both brand new to us and just plain brand new) apartment in Gas City (I’ll not say that name again - I hate it. from now on, I dub it GC, G-town, etc.) I have to be in by the end of the month, when my current lease expires. David (and his stuff) will join me there *after* the wedding.

my big stuff - furniture, books, cds, kitchen stuff, washer, dryer, etc. - all got moved in on Friday, by David, his dad, and a couple of friends from Indy. oddly enough, every other friend I had was out of town that weekend… doesn’t that sound suspicious to you? ;) (seriously, they all had plans and the moving was last minute - no grudges here)

it would have been nice to have been able to work in the new apartment on Saturday, getting things unpacked and deciding where furniture goes, but we did something much better with our day. a dear friend, Leslie Anne Wise, got married to Josh Stamoolis. the wedding was in KY, a four-hour drive from Indy. it was beautiful - a study in simplicity and joy. I was so glad to have been there…

the wedding took up the day, so we went back to GC after church and started working. Dave got the furniture mostly put together (he actually dismantled the coffee table and the dining room table so that he could fix them - those are the only pieces not done), like the bed, the desk, the dresser/mirror, etc. I spent most of the day fishing through boxes and putting things in the right rooms. barely made a dent. =)

stayed late enough working that I just ended up crashing there. heck, we’re already paying rent, so why not? got up this morning and made my first 1 1/2 hour drive - which turned out not to be bad at all. I like driving as long as I’m not in traffic (the stick makes *that* painful).

this week holds much work. I have to finish moving out of my apartment while helping my roommate do her moving, get a marriage license, figure out hair appointments for the wedding, call the doctor & get her to prescribe something different than what I have now, etc, etc. I’m really starting to look forward to my two-week vacation (the honeymoon) - if for no other reason than that all the busy-ness stops!

  1. Hey now, don’t razz on us if you didn’t call us to ask for help. Last I knew, you guys didn’t know when you were moving. So cut the crap…unless, of course, I don’t qualify as a friend–which would be unfortunate, although understandable (I can’t stand myself, why should you?). May have to change my toast if nobody likes me… ;)

  2. S - I wasn’t talking about you. It wouldn’t have been fair to ask you to drive an hour and a half to Indy, then another hour and a half to Upland just to do manual labor. The “friends” I was mentioning was not an all-inclusive group - rather, I was talking about the pals who live near enough to me to drive over and pitch some boxes in the truck, and those who live in Upland who could have helped us unload.

Plus, I think David’s going to ask you to help move HIS stuff out of his place, so I didn’t want to double-team you on the moving duties.

You are my friend. =) Keep your toast.

  3. Oh good–as long as I still get to do some manual labor, I’ll be happy. :)

  4. yeah, she was talking about people like me who were attending their 4th wedding of the summer

  5. =) yeah, and people like elayne, who took her first vacation in ages in Florida.
